CAT ownership in a nutshell
Owning a cat can bring many benefits to your life, from providing companionship and entertainment to improving your mental and physical health. Cats are independent animals that require less attention and care than dogs, making them an ideal pet for people with busy lifestyles or limited space.
In this article, we'll explore some of the benefits of owning a cat:
1. Companionship
Cats make great companions. They are affectionate, playful, and often like to curl up in their owner's lap for a cuddle. Cats are also low-maintenance pets that don't require as much attention as dogs, making them an ideal pet for people who work long hours or have a busy schedule. Owning a cat can help alleviate loneliness and provide a sense of comfort and companionship.
2. Stress Relief
Petting a cat has been shown to lower blood pressure and reduce stress. The sound of a cat purring can be soothing and has a calming effect on the body. Cats are also low-maintenance pets that require less attention than dogs, making them a great choice for people who want a pet that can help them relax and de-stress.
3. Health Benefits
Owning a cat can have several health benefits. Studies have shown that owning a cat can help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. Cats are also great for people with allergies as they produce fewer allergens than dogs. The act of caring for a pet can also provide a sense of purpose and increase physical activity, which can lead to improved overall health.
4. Entertainment
Cats are natural-born entertainers. They are playful and curious animals that love to explore and play. Whether it's chasing a toy or climbing a scratching post, cats are always finding new ways to keep themselves entertained. Watching a cat play can be entertaining and provide a sense of joy and happiness. When you raise a dog and a cat together, they can become the best of friends, often playing for hours and their curiosity will often get them into sticky situations that have hilarious outcomes.
5. Pest Control
Cats are natural hunters and can help keep your home free of pests. Their keen senses and quick reflexes make them great at catching mice, rats, and other small pests that may enter your home. Owning a cat can help reduce the need for harmful pesticides and keep your home pest-free.
6. Low Maintenance
Cats are low-maintenance pets that require less attention than dogs. They are self-cleaning animals that groom themselves regularly, which means you don't have to worry about giving them a bath. They also use a litter box to do their business, or more often cats will use spitted garden beds. They dig a hole and relieve themselves and then they nicely cover it up afterwards – no sight of animal doo-doos anywhere (aren’t they just clever?) Nothing to pick up, unless you use a litter box. Most litter that you purchase in the stores will last a month, after which the litter needs to be changed. You will need to clean out feces about once a week which is simple enough with a scoop and a plastic bag. No mess, no fuss.
