AATFB, a non-profit organization that commenced its operations in late March 2023, openly acknowledges our naivety as a young organization. We recognize that we have a lot to learn and grow in our journey towards making a positive impact in the realm of animal welfare. Our primary focus is on serving the animals in need, without getting entangled in the politics that can sometimes arise between organizations. We firmly believe in fostering collaboration and cooperation with other entities, prioritizing the well-being and welfare of animals above all else. With our non-profit status, we are driven by compassion and dedication, aiming to create a harmonious and compassionate community for animals in Botswana.
We want to provide clarity on our organization's role and responsibilities while highlighting our beliefs and initiatives:
1. Not a shelter: While AATFB tirelessly works to rescue and assist animals, we do not currently have a physical shelter facility.
2. No ambulance service: Please contact your local veterinary clinic or animal control for immediate assistance in animal emergencies, as AATFB does not provide ambulance services.
3. Not veterinarians: AATFB collaborates closely with veterinary professionals but does not operate as a veterinary clinic. We ensure animals receive necessary medical care through these partnerships.
4. Dedicated individuals: Our team members have full-time occupational jobs and volunteer their time to support our mission. We are passionate individuals committed to animal welfare.
5. Encouraging responsible involvement: We believe in promoting responsible animal rescue and assistance, encouraging the community to actively participate in helping animals in need rather than relying solely on animal organizations.
6. Seeking volunteers: AATFB relies on dedicated volunteers to support our initiatives, including foster care homes, events, TNR programs, and lost pet searches. We are developing a registration portal on our website to streamline the volunteer process.
7. Support through donations: We greatly appreciate donations of food, cleaning supplies, and financial contributions to sustain our efforts in providing care and support to animals in need.
8. Responsible rehoming: AATFB emphasizes the importance of not abandoning kittens, cats, old dogs, and special needs animals at shelters. We encourage exploring responsible rehoming alternatives to prioritize their well-being and welfare. Reach out to us for guidance and assistance in finding suitable solutions for these sentient beings.
9. Dogs: For dog adoptions, we recommend visiting the BSPCA shelter as a primary option. At this time, AATFB is not fully equipped for dog adoptions. BSPCA specializes in dog adoptions and offers dedicated resources for the process.
10. Cats: AATFB has cats available for adoption through our foster care program. Please note that not all cats are immediately ready for adoption. Contact us for more information on the adoption process. An adoption fee of P950 applies, and we prioritize the well-being of our cats by ensuring they are vaccinated and neutered before placement.
11. Pet neutering advocacy: AATFB strongly supports pet neutering and urges caretakers of stray animals to prioritize spaying or neutering. This crucial step plays a vital role in controlling the stray animal population, improving their overall well-being, and mitigating certain health risks. It is important to note that merely feeding a stray cat without getting it neutered does not truly benefit the cat or address the underlying issues. By taking the responsible action of spaying or neutering, we can make a meaningful impact in ensuring a healthier and more balanced stray animal population.
Together, we can create a community where animals are treated with compassion and receive the care they deserve. We invite you to get involved, offer support, and make a positive impact on the lives of animals in Botswana. Thank you for your continued support and belief in our mission.
Some of the most common types of donations gratefully accepted include:
Food and Treats: Foster homes and shelters need a steady supply of food and treats to feed the animals in their care. Donations of canned or dry food, treats, and supplements are always appreciated.
Cleaning Supplies: Foster homes and shelters need to maintain a clean and hygienic environment which is essential to keeping animals healthy. Donations of cleaning supplies such as bleach, disinfectants, paper towels, kitty litter, and trash bags are always welcome.
Bedding and Toys: Foster homes and shelters need to provide a comfortable and stimulating environment while the animals await adoption. Donations of bedding, "durable" blankets, toys, and other items can help keep them comfortable and entertained.
Volunteer Time: Foster homes and shelters often rely on volunteers to help care for animals and assist with administrative tasks. Donating your time and skills can be just as valuable as monetary or material donations.
Money: We need financial support to assist with the costs of supported TNR programs, shelters, foster cares, medical care, and other expenses associated with rescuing and caring for animals.
